Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is somatic breathwork?
A: Somatic breathwork is a guided breathing practice that helps release tension, regulate the nervous system, and reconnect with your body. It can stir up physical sensations and emotional responses- and that’s part of the process.
Q: Do I have to scream?
A: Not at all. While we hold space for primal sound- like screaming, crying, or vocal release- it’s never expected or forced. Your experience may be quiet, still, loud, or somewhere in between. All of it is welcome.
Q: What is tetany, and is it normal?
A: Yes, it’s normal. Tetany is a physical response where your hands, mouth, or face may cramp or tingle during breathwork. It’s temporary and usually passes when you return to a normal breath pattern. We’ll guide you through it gently if it comes up.
Q: What if I don’t feel anything?
A: That’s okay. Sometimes breathwork is deeply emotional or physical, and sometimes it’s subtle. Not every session looks or feels intense- and that doesn’t mean it’s not working. Just showing up to breathe is enough.
Q: Is this safe if I have trauma?
A: Yes. We approach breathwork with trauma-awareness and care. While strong emotions may surface, you’re always in control of your pace and experience. We create a grounded, supportive space where your safety comes first.
Q: What does Reiki do during breathwork?
A: Reiki is gentle energy work offered during the session to support emotional release, nervous system regulation, and energetic balance. It’s non-invasive, calming, and can help you feel more supported during the process.
Q: What if I cry or get emotional?
A: You’re in the right place. Breathwork is a space where emotion is allowed and held without judgment. Crying, shaking, stillness, and laughter are all natural responses. You don’t have to explain or hold it back.
Q: Is it okay if I don’t want to be touched?
A: Absolutely. Reiki and physical touch are always optional. Let us know your preferences and we’ll honor them fully- your comfort matters.
Q: Can I leave the room or stop if I need to?
A: Yes. You are never trapped in a session. If you need to pause, step out, or adjust anything, you are absolutely allowed. Your experience is yours to navigate.
Q: What should I bring?
A: Wear comfy clothes you can breathe and move in. We recommend bringing water and anything that helps you feel grounded- like a journal, blanket, or eye mask. Mats and props are provided.
Q: Can I eat before breathwork?
A: We suggest eating lightly before the session. A full stomach can make deep breathing uncomfortable. Don’t worry- there’s a shared meal after the session.
Q: Will there be other people in the room?
A: Yes, we typically hold breathwork in small groups. Everyone is there for their own healing, and we hold space with care and respect for each other’s process.
Q: Do I need experience to join?
A: Not at all. You don’t need to know anything about breathwork, healing, or meditation. Just come as you are- we’ll guide you through it.
Q: Is this religious or spiritual?
A: The space is open to whatever you believe. Some people experience breathwork spiritually, others don’t. It’s less about belief and more about feeling what’s real in your body.
Q: Is it okay if I’m nervous?
A: Yes. Nervous is normal- especially if it’s your first time. We’ll walk you through everything and you can take the experience at your own pace. You’re not alone.
Q: Can I attend if I’m pregnant or have medical conditions?
A: We recommend checking with your healthcare provider first. While breathwork can be safe for many people, certain conditions may require modifications. Let us know and we’ll help you adapt the session.
Q: Will I be expected to share with the group?
A: Nope. Sharing is completely optional. Some people feel called to speak afterward, others don’t. We respect both.
Q: Why is there a shared meal afterward?
A: After breathwork, your body and nervous system need time to ground. Sharing a meal helps integrate the experience and connect in community. Healing doesn’t end when the breath stops.
